IC INFORMATION
Character Name: Irene Armannsson de Venach "Iren Suto" (A fake identity)
AU or OU: AU
Canon: OC
Character Age: 34
AU Description: Irene was born of the elite, the daughter of a count. She wanted for very little, growing up. Her life was largely blessed until, in a terrible stupid accident involving a drunken airship pilot, she lost her older brother and mother in one moment.

She could have recovered from that loss, eventually, but the truth is in that moment she lost her father too. Unable to face the loss of his son and wife, Count Armannsson spent extravagant amounts of money on elaborate parties and indulged in all of the worst habits of Imperial nobles, refusing to face his daughter because facing her would also be facing his own loss. He blew through the family’s considerable fortune in a few years and, when the creditors and debt collectors started to make noise, arranged for his daughter to be married into a rich but lower class family.

Irene did her best to get to know her betrothed, but he was a distinctly unlikable young man, and the idea of getting married and churning out heirs for the family was profoundly disturbing to her.

Iren fled one night, rather than face a future fate had laid out for her. As an aristocratic brat, she had few useful skills for surviving on her own, so it was a stroke of luck that her haphazard flight took her to the forgotten ruins of a temple to Morrah, god of travelers and hospitality.

In the face of Imperial censor, Morrah had lost most of his power and was little more than a ghost at this point, but a god of hospitality can't really ignore someone who is desperate for sanctuary. It would have gone against everything he was. Morrah used the last vestiges of his power to move them half way across the world to Innistis.

There, safe for the moment, the dying god and the runaway noble made a deal. Irene Armannsson de Venach, noble scion, became Iren Suto, barkeep and owner of The Laughing Toadstool. She also became Morrah’s high priestess (his only priest). Every satisfied customer restored a tiny sliver of Morrah's power. In return, Morrah blessed her establishment and taught her how to run a business, something she certainly had no experience with before.

The Corsairs found out her true identity and are simultaneously protecting her and blackmailing her, though everyone is very polite about it. Iren is a mage of modest talent, but not interested in fighting openly. Instead, in exchange for protection, she allows revolutionaries to use her business as a safe house at times and a place to exchange information with other.
OU Backstory: Summed up here.
Powers and Abilities: Iren is a mage of modest talent backed up by the vestigal god Morrah.
  • Soulfusing: Iren can magically cut off tiny bits of her own soul and store them in physical objects by touching them. While an object is so infused, she can move it about as if it were a part of her own body. Chairs walk around, cutlery hovers, walls disassemble themselves, etc. Her soul recovers lost bits of itself very slowly, or she can reclaim the lost bits, also by touch. Reclaiming energy like this gives her a short energy boost.
  • The Laughing Toadstool: Iren's place of business, a cozy cafe/bar (coffee and croissants during the day, booze at night), is not just a building. In the 12 years she has owned the place she has soulfused every single thing in it, from the foundations to the shingles on the roof. The building will reshape itself to suit her whims, and she has an enormous resevoir of power to draw on while she is there. Even when she's not there, she always has a vague awareness of what is happening within.
  • Blessing of Morrah: Morrah, god of travelers and hospitality, has blessed Iren and the Laughing Toadstool. Wherever Iren goes, she is marginally more likely to end up staying with friendly and sympathetic people, and anyone who passes by the Toadstool feels a subconscious reassurance that they would feel welcome there. It's enough that even though she's only an average businesswoman, Iren has never particularly had to worry about running out of customers. By agreement, this effect does not target obvious Imperial soldiers or agents.

Desired Faction: Elysium really is the only choice that makes sense here. Flotsam would be a distant second.

SAMPLES
Here is Iren's entry from the previous TDM. Some of the threads are a little short, so here's a few of the interview questions:

Why do you wish to join the Crimson Corsairs?
I don't particularly want to get involved, honestly, but you're the only ones protecting me from getting scooped back up and dragged home to my father, and there's a lot I would do to avoid that.

Why should the Crimson Corsairs allow you to join them?
You came to me because I have the shapeshifting safe house.

What are you unwilling to sacrifice yourself for?
I'm fighting for my freedom to live my life how I want. If I have to sacrifice that, there's not much point is there?

...I say "fighting" but I REALLY hope you aren't expecting me to actually fight anyone. I think I'd start crying if someone drew a weapon on me.

How do you handle orders from a superior officer?
I don't know. I've never had a superior officer. I suppose as long as what they were asking made sense, I wouldn't mind doing it...

Many Crimson Corsairs will die in the line of duty, how does that make you feel?
Absolutely terrible! I hope I'm not one of them!

What has your experience with the Imperials been like?
Probably better than most of yours, if we're being honest. I had a comfortable life.

But...everyone in the Empire has their life decided for them. I suppose becoming a nobleman's wife and spitting out heirs would be marginally better than working in a salt mine, but I'd rather like to determine the direction of my life by myself.

This is Iren's overflow post for whenever it feels necessary.

I feel like I should put something else in here so here's a picture of a frog:

Once a weathered ruin of a temple to Morrah, god of travelers and hospitality, the Laughing Toadstool has since been rebuilt into a cozy two floor cafe/bar. The ground floor contains the dining area, bar, and kitchen, the basement is split between a storage area and a shrine to Morrah. The upstairs is divided into a number of small apartments, the largest of which Iren has claimed for herself. The rest belong to Iren’s staff.
