The Laughing Toadstool

ordainedbarkeepOnce a weathered ruin of a temple to Morrah, god of travelers and hospitality, the Laughing Toadstool has since been rebuilt into a cozy two floor cafe/bar. The ground floor contains the dining area, bar, and kitchen, the basement is split between a storage area and a shrine to Morrah. The upstairs is divided into a number of small apartments, the largest of which Iren has claimed for herself. The rest belong to Iren’s staff.

MORRAH

God of travel and hospitality, Morrah is a formless ghost who has very little ability to directly influence the physical world. He can only manifest as even a ghostly presence near the shrine in the basement of the Laughing Toadstool or near Iren herself, and struggles to maintain a coherent mind for long periods of time. As his high priestess, Iren can gradually empower him by living out his precepts. That means in general that she must resist staying in one place for long periods of time, and also must offer food and shelter to any who enters her home with good intentions.

Thalia is a big, fat, white cat that Iren found as a kitten many years ago and took in. She was once a mouser, but now is far too old and lazy to do any real hunting. Iren can manhandle her pretty much however she pleases, but if anyone else tries to pet her they can expect hissing and scratching.

Thom was drafted into a war he had no interest in. After being terribly wounded in battle, Thom was fitted out with intensive cybernetics that turned him into a murder machine with four arms and armor plating. Thom confided in Iren that he hated fighting but couldn't really escape the Empire. Iren offered him a way out in exchange for using his superhuman reflexes and multiple arms to prepare food for any visitors to the Laughing Toadstool. Thom accepted.

Ecter was, at heart, a poet and artist. Unfortunately, he was one of six heirs to the throne of Transcendia, a nation at war. The other five heirs all went to war with each other, driving the entire kingdom to war. Lacking any real ambition himself, Ecter figured that it was only a matter of time before he was assassinated by someone, so when Iren offered him a way out, he gladly accepted it. Iren mainly hired him because she thinks he's super cute.

Grace is a tall, black, lesbian martial arts enthusiast growing up in the early 80s. After a lifetime of getting shat on by basically everyone around her due to a combination of racism, sexism, and homophobia, Grace was all too happy to get the fuck out of there. She doesn't have any magic powers or cybernetic enhancements, but she DOES have the ability to talk to an angry drunk without cringing, which no one else on the premises can do reliably.
