Spellbook of Rituals
Soulfusing is the most basic form of magic there is, but it is certainly not the only form. Iren knows a number of rituals that she can cast that have various useful effects. Each of these rituals requires at the very least ten minutes of preparation time and some chalk (or similar) to draw a ritual circle. Many of them require more time, preparations, or components.
RITUALS
RITUALS
- Ritual of seeking - By obtaining part of and object (or person), she can establish a link to the rest of it with a tracking spell. If the target is nearby, the spell may highlight it directly with phantasmal lights. If it is further away, it will produce a map or other clue that can be used to find it.
- Ritual of hiding - This ritual draws attention away from anything inside the ritual circle. It doesn't turn anything invisible, but rather tricks the eye away from whatever it has been used on. The target becomes a mere background detail, dismissed as unimportant and quickly forgotten.
- Ritual of tongues - By performing this ritual, the caster will immediately learn the language of the person inside the ritual circle. Using the ritual on a new target will make the caster forget the last language they learned this way. It also has a side effect of terrible migraines for an hour or two from having that much information shoved into your brain all at once.
- Ritual of protection - Depending on how you cast this ritual, you can trap an entity INSIDE the circle, or place yourself inside the circle and keep everything else OUT. The strength of the barrier depends on how precisely you drew the ritual circle. A perfectly formed ritual of protection is, in theory, indestructible, but no one has ever been able to make a perfect ritual circle.
- Ritual of summoning - In theory, this ritual can be used to summon various demons and djinns to make deals with them. More sensibly, it can be used to summon mundane items from somewhere out there in the multiverse. Useful if you need, say, a shovel, or a dictionary, or a box of condoms. It does mean that someone just lost their shovel (or dictionary, or box of condoms) but such is the cost of magic.
- Ritual of purification - A ritual that removes contamination or disease from an object. It won’t make something safe to handle if it’s fundamentally poisonous, but it will remove any corruption or harmful additives. Useful for keeping food fresh or for not getting sick in strange new lands. Large scale versions of this ritual are often built in to food storage areas.
- Ritual of repulsion - Completing this ritual imbues an object with an aura of supernatural fear that can be tuned to effect certain kinds of creatures or entities. Useful for keeping various forms of vermin out of your home, as well as for repelling monsters, though the latter requires you to be quite confident in your work.
